Who are we?
Chef Matt Lopez was born in Kerrville and calls the hill country home. Matt began his love for food by watching and barbecuing with his father at a young age grilling wild game and steaks over mesquite wood. Matt graduated from Tivy high school and then served his country by joining the US Navy.
Matt took his love and passion for food with him as he traveled the world in the Navy. Matt served tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay, and the Persian Gulf. After serving 12 years in the Navy, Matt graduated from The Art institute earning his B.S. in culinary management. Matt then headed to Manhattan NY, and managed several upscale concepts as an Executive chef.
After Manhattan Matt headed to Houston becoming The GM and Executive chef of a well know upscale steakhouse downtown Houston. An opportunity was presented in Kerrville and the concept of Heritage Kitchen was created by Matt and Ray.
Ray was born in Ingram and grew up in the Texas hill country. Ray graduated from Ingram and then earned his A.S. degree in Computer Science. Ray then headed around the world in the oil industry experiencing all the different cultures and cuisines his travels had to offer.
In the oil industry Ray was an offshore seismic technician working in various regions around the world. Ray worked in the oil industry for over 17 years learning valuable leadership and organization skills that helped mold and develop his values and work ethic.
Ray gathered all of his exposure to food and culture and brought it back to the Texas hill country where he grew up. Ray then decided to open Heritage Kitchen with his wife Maribel and Chef Matt.
